The Norton Elementary Media Program supports the school’s curriculum and instruction by providing quality resources, encouraging reading across all content areas, and building collaborative relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Meet Ms. Baccus

Denise Baccus, School Librarian

I have had the privilege of serving as an educator since 2001- working in diverse roles- and have been a dedicated school librarian since 2016. I hold a Bachelor’s degree In Communication and a Master’s Degree in School Library Media. In recognition of my contributions, I was honored as local school Teacher of the Year in 2022.

I am deeply committed to fostering an enriching educational environment. Each day, I strive to ignite a passion for reading and learning by cultivating a warm, welcoming space where students are encouraged to explore literature through self-selection, experience captivating storytelling, and engage with our dynamic makerspace. I also lead engaging media lessons designed to build essential research skills.

In addition to these enriching experiences, we host a variety of exciting events throughout the year, including book fairs, the GCPS bookmobile, puppet shows, museum exhibitions, guest author visits, as well as special guest readers. Meet Ms. Anderson

Ms. Leilani Anderson, Library Media Clerk — Ms. Leilani Anderson

I have had the pleasure of partnering with educators and students since 2012 through art classes, museum tours, and workshops. I am passionate about building empathy in students, for each other and the natural world, through engaging them in art forms of all kinds. I have used my degree in Studio Art to lead art camps, teach classes, illustrate playbills, and create original art for collectors.

Since 2024 I worked as a museum educator, connecting students with stories from Georgia history as well as with an understanding of the intricate ecosystem of our beautiful state. Through this work I often presented first person accounts from people who lived in some of the most important eras of our nation’s history and interpreted books about these subjects for students. I developed a love of reading books with students and for connecting them with resources which would broaden their understanding and appreciation of the world.

I am excited to start my journey with GCPS, as a library clerk where I can continue to support teachers in their work. I look forward to learning more about the library profession and to help connect readers with information that will open their minds to all they can be and create.

Mission and Vision

The Norton Media Center strives to provide a safe and inviting environment that encourages the entire school community to access materials in a variety of formats for knowledge and enjoyment. The media center includes resources which support Gwinnett County's AKS and the Georgia Performance Standards, as well as the Common Core Standards and is a place where everyone is welcome. A few of the media center’s goals are to promote students' interest in reading and learning, teach students strategies needed to access information, and develop student’s abilities to use information effectively.
